Amalthea Terms of Use
Effective date: September 8, 2026
These are the rules for using Amalthea. Amalthea is made by Zachary Morain, in Florida, United States. By creating an account or using the app, you agree to them. They are written to be read, not skimmed. If you do not agree with something here, do not use Amalthea, and email us so we can hear why.
What Amalthea is
Amalthea keeps a living inventory of what is in your kitchen. Today it does four things: you add pantry items by hand, you scan grocery receipts to add items and record what you paid, it estimates how long food lasts, and it remembers prices by store. Amalthea is free. There is nothing to buy in the app today. If that changes, these terms change first and you will see the new version before you pay for anything.
Who can use it
You must be 18 or older. You must be able to enter a binding agreement where you live. Amalthea is built for people in the United States.
Your account
You sign in with an email address and a password, or with a magic link sent to your email. Keep your sign-in details to yourself. Everything done under your account is treated as done by you. Tell us right away if you think someone else has used it.
Each account belongs to one household. Today an account creates its own household and there is no way to join someone else's.
Your content
The pantry items, receipts, prices, and household name you put into Amalthea are yours. You give us permission to store and process them for one reason: to run the app for you. We do not claim ownership of your content. We do not sell it. We do not use it to train AI models.
Only put in content you have the right to use. Do not upload another person's receipts or data without their permission. Do not upload anything illegal.
Receipt scanning
Scanning reads a photo of your receipt and turns it into a list of items and prices. That reading is a best effort by a machine. It will get things wrong: a price, a quantity, a store name, an item that is not there. That is why the app shows you the result to review and edit before anything is saved. You are responsible for checking it. We do not guarantee that a scan is accurate or complete.
Scanning is limited to a reasonable number of receipts per minute. If you hit the limit, wait a moment and try again.
Shelf-life estimates and saved prices
Amalthea estimates when food expires from the item's category, its purchase date, and any shelf-life settings you set. Items you add by hand get an estimate only when you ask for one on the item's edit screen. An estimate is an estimate. Amalthea does not inspect your food and cannot tell you whether something is safe to eat. Use your own judgment. If you set an expiry date yourself, that date is used as entered.
Saved prices are what your receipts said. They are a record, not advice about where to shop or what something will cost next time.
What you may not do
- Try to read, change, or delete another household's data.
- Try to get around sign-in, rate limits, or any other protection.
- Send automated traffic or bulk uploads that go beyond normal personal use.
- Copy the app, resell it, or present it as your own.
- Use Amalthea to break the law or to harm anyone.
If you do any of these, we may suspend or delete your account.
Availability and changes
Amalthea is a small product that is still being built. Features will be added and some will change. We may pause or stop the service for maintenance, and we may stop it altogether. If we shut Amalthea down, we will say so on this page and by email first, with time for you to write down what you need.
Ending your account
You can delete your account at any time from Settings, or by following the steps at https://www.amalthea.app/delete-account. Deletion is immediate and cannot be undone. What is deleted, and what outlasts deletion, is spelled out in the Privacy Policy.
We may end your account if you break these terms. If we do, we will tell you why unless the law prevents it.
No warranty
Amalthea is provided as it is and as it is available. We do not promise it will be error free, uninterrupted, or fit for a particular purpose. Scans and estimates can be wrong, and the sections above say how.
Limit on what we owe you
To the extent the law allows, Zachary Morain is not responsible for indirect or consequential losses, such as lost data, lost savings, or spoiled food, that come from using Amalthea. Where we are responsible, our total liability to you is limited to the greater of 100 US dollars and the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Some places do not allow these limits, and where that is the case they do not apply to you.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Florida, without regard to its conflict of law rules. Any dispute is brought in the state or federal courts located in Florida, and you agree to their jurisdiction.
Changes to these terms
When we change these terms we update this page and the effective date at the top. If a change is significant, we say so on this page and by email before it takes effect. Using Amalthea after the effective date means you accept the new terms.
Privacy
How we handle your data is in the Privacy Policy at https://www.amalthea.app/privacy. It is part of these terms.
